BMI or Body Mass Index is a height/weight system used to assess a person’s body weight and total body fat. Your BMI determines whether you are underweight, normal, overweight, or obese.
Body Mass Index (BMI):
Below 18.5 – Underweight
18.5 – 24.9 – Normal
25.0 – 29.9 – Overweight
30.0 or Above – Obese
BMI ranges are indicators of your possible risk for some diseases and even death. So basically, as your BMI increases, your risk of developing health problems likewise increases, stated “Weightalogue”. Some health problems related to overweight and obesity include:
- High blood pressure
- Cardiovascular disease
- Sleep Apnea
- Female Infertility
- Urinary incontinence
How is BMI calculated?
First, measure your weight (either in pounds or kilograms) and height (either in inches or meters). Then, compute for your BMI using the following formula.
In English units: BMI can be calculated using pounds and inches with the following formula.
BMI = Weight (in pounds) multiplied by 704.5 divided by [Height (in inches) X Height (in inches)]
In Metric units: BMI can also be calculated using kilograms and meters with the following formula.
BMI = Weight (in kilos) divided by [Height (in meters) X Height (in meters)]
